Some of my favorite podcasts

May 29, 2023 //  by ellen//  Leave a Comment

Are you a fan of podcasts? I am a huge listener of podcasts and try to squeeze in as many episodes as possible. I listen while walking my dogs, running errands, doing chores or even while working, particularly on something that doesn’t require tons of brain power.

I know many surface pattern designers listen to The Professional Creative Podcast by industry great Bonnie Christine or a fairly new, but equally amazing show, The Tillage Podcast by Shirlee Fisher. I love both of them, however I wanted to highlight a few more that you might not be familiar with that appeal to a wider audience, not just designers.

The Ed Mylett Show:

This is a motivational podcast hosted by entrepreneur and speaker Ed Mylett. In the show, Ed interviews guests who are industry leaders, successful entrepreneurs, athletes, and other accomplished individuals. The show aims to inspire listeners to reach their full potential in their personal and professional lives. Each episode is centered around valuable life lessons and experiences the guests have gone through. Throughout each episode, Ed shares his own stories and insights as well, adding to the conversation and offering his own advice for success. The show has a significant focus on mindset, personal development, and the power of positive thinking. The Ed Mylett Show is a must-listen for anyone looking to elevate their life, career, and relationships.

Misfits and Rejects:

The name intrigued me when I first gave this podcast a try over 3 years ago. It is a hosted by Chapin Kreuter, an avid traveler, adventurer, and entrepreneur. Through interviews with unconventional people who have chosen to live outside the norm, the podcast explores topics such as adventure travel, unconventional lifestyles, and creating a life of freedom and purpose. The podcast features guests with a wide range of backgrounds, from surfers and digital nomads to creatives and entrepreneurs, who share their stories of taking a non-traditional path in life. The show aims to inspire listeners to pursue their dreams and live life on their own terms.

What I like best is Chapin’s vulnerability in admitting he is still trying to figure everything out with entrepreneurship, building his own community and living in Mexico. This podcast doesn’t publish as regularly as some of the others I review, but there is a decent backload of episodes to go back and listen to the ones you want.

Kwik Brain:

Kwik Brain is a podcast hosted by Jim Kwik, who is a world-renowned memory and brain performance expert. In each episode, Jim shares his insights and practical strategies for improving memory, focus, learning, and overall brain performance. My father had Alzheimer’s and I find all information and research about the brain fascinating.

The episodes cover a variety of topics, including memory techniques, speed reading, mental agility, and productivity. Jim also interviews experts in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and education to provide listeners with the latest research and insights into how the brain works.

Kwik Brain is designed to be a quick and easy listen, with episodes typically lasting between 10 to 20 minutes. Jim’s engaging and personable style makes complex scientific concepts accessible and easy to understand, and his practical tips and strategies can be applied to everyday life to help listeners unlock their brain’s full potential.

The 6 Figure Creative:

Brian Hood addresses all types creatives in his podcast, The 6 Figure Creative podcast. It is a show all about helping creative professionals grow their businesses and achieve financial success. Each episode features interviews with successful creatives, as well as tips and strategies for building a profitable career in a creative field. Brian covers a wide range of topics, from pricing strategies to marketing tactics, and explores the challenges and opportunities that come with running a creative business. Whether you’re a photographer, designer, writer, or any other type of creative professional, the 6 Figure Creative podcast offers valuable insights and practical advice for achieving your financial goals and building a sustainable career doing what you love. And, right now Brian is doing a “Back to Basics” series which is incredibly helpful, even though I’ve been freelancing for over 12 years I am learning something new in each episode.
